Tranquility Amidst Vancouver's North Shore Mountains

We are Carol & Derek Matthews and Limosa House has been our home for over 10 years - we had always considered it to be an oasis after a busy day at work and decided once the children were all grown that we would like to see it enjoyed by other people as much as we enjoy it ourselves.

We also thought you might like to learn a little about us before you arrive.

Carol emigrated from England when she was 19 and has always been passionate about Vancouver and super natural British Columbia. An accomplished businesswoman she was named one of Vancouver’s top 40 business people and successfully built several companies from start-up. The move to running and managing Limosa House was an easy one given her business background and analytical mind which means that everything is planned to the last detail to ensure that guests have a truly memorable experience.

A self-confessed travel nut she has traveled extensively throughout the world and this experience enables her to guarantee a truly exceptional experience for our guests by offering the extra touches that she expects as a sophisticated traveler.

Carol shares Derek’s love of birds, nature and the outdoors which is reflected in Limosa House, its gardens and setting.

Derek is also an ex-Brit from Hertfordshire north of London who has lived in Vancouver since 1991 – His first love (apart from Carol!) is ornithology and avian research and conservation - although he and Carol worked together in Financial Services for many years.

He is a Master Bird Bander and runs the Vancouver Avian Research Centre in Vancouver in addition to leading field trips, bird tours bird identification courses and hosting bird monitoring and banding workshops.

His third love is Arsenal Football Club – a lifelong supporter of the Gunners he follows their results wherever he is and offers free drinks to all Arsenal supporters who visit – unfortunately Manchester United supporters have to pay double!!
